Our 6 Favorite Chai Latte K-Cups for Keurig Style Brewers

It’s hard not to love a good Chai latte. They are caffeinated, creamy, spiced, and sweetened to taste.

Unlike spiced cider, Chai tends to be a bit darker in favor and a lot creamier than coffee based lattes in my opinion.

Making Chai at home can be a slowish process on the stovetop as the spices, tea leaves, and creamers slowly blend together so there’s no doubt the appeal of making this in k-cup form is strong.

Because Chai can be made so differently however all of the companies making Chai k-cups really do tend to make their differently. They all start at the same point however, black tea mixed with typical spices like cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. The difference however is in the mix.

Some of the k-cups listed below are heavily sweetened and made creamy like the Grove Square Chai Latte k-cups while others take a different approach. Cha4tea makes their k-cups to be completely tea based with no sweeteners or creamers at all. You can add your own however you like after brewing your cup.

Still others in the list below try to balance the tea to flavor additives in different ways and some are more complicated to brew than others.

What I’m saying is that even in k-cup form a Chai Latte can still be a multi-step brewing process if you want it to taste better.

Before I get to my full reviews of your options I wanted to show you a summary first in the following table.

Chai Latte K Cup Reviews – Your Best Options for Convenient K-Cup Chai

There are probably a bunch of other Chai latte k-cups to choose from but this list includes your best options for buying online. I’ve tried to review them all as best as I can without emphasizing my own personal bias to much. Hopefully you’ll find these reviews helpful.

Cafe Escapes Chai Latte K-Cups, 11.7 oz, 96 CountCafe Escapes Chai Latte K-Cups, 11.7 oz, 96 Count

If you’ve ever made Chai tea on a stovetop you know it can be a long process if you want it to taste great.

These k-cups on the other hand are the exact opposite. They get you nearly the same exact taste in about a minute in any standard Keurig machine or k-cup brewer from any other company.

These cups are designed to work with both Keurig 1.0 and 2.0 systems and for buying in bulk you can’t beat the pricing. Just shake the cup up before inserting into your Keurig to ensure the best flavor extraction and enjoy.

Twinings of London Chai Latte K-Cups for Keurig, 12 CountTwinings of London Chai Latte K-Cups for Keurig, 12 Count

This Twinnings version of Chai tea is definitely worth trying. It may not be quite as good as what you get with Cafe Escapes in my opinion but you can buy smaller packages easily both online and in local retail stores.

Twinnings recommends brewing this Chai Latte in your Keurig on either the 6oz or 8oz selection and then adding a touch of milk or cream directly to your cup.

These k-cups are sweetened already but some people who like theirs more sweet may also want to add a bit of sweetener. I however prefer my chai to be less sweet so these are nearly perfect for my tastes.

Cha4TEA Chai Black Tea K Cups for Keurig K-Cup, 36 CountCha4TEA Chai Black Tea K Cups for Keurig K-Cup, 36 Count

This Chai k-cup is a bit like the Twinnings product in that it hasn’t been sweetened at all. It is literally just spiced black tea making it the perfect base for a Chai Latte or a plain chai tea. You can add any kind of sweetener you like (if you want) and any creamer you like after brewing.

The pods themselves should work just fine in any regular Keurig machine, newer Keurig Hot 2.0 machine, or any generic k-cup brewer you may be using.

Because this Chai is not doctored up with additional flavoring the tea leaves themselves carry all the flavor front and center so some people may find the spice blend to be perfect while others find it to be off a little, this will always be a personal preference.

For the k-cups in this list however these are some of the most affordable options so it’s definitely worth trying.

Grove Square Chai Latte, 24-count Single Serve Cup for Keurig K-cup BrewersGrove Square Chai Latte, 24-count Single Serve Cup for Keurig K-cup Brewers

Grove Square’s Chai Latte k cups are quite different from the previous two products in our list. For one you aren’t buying in bulk and you are also buying a flavored tea, not just one that is spiced.

These are some of the more expensive k-cups in the list but what you get with Grove Square is probably the perfect option for convenience because you may not have to add milk or sweetener to you chai if you brew with these k-cups. They are already sweetened pretty good and come out of the brewer quite creamy.

Of course this means the little k-cups contain more favoring and less tea leaves than a product like Twinnings but for some people that may be a good thing.

For me, I like my Chai less sweet so this isn’t the one I’d be using all the time but I can’t ignore how easy it is to get a good cup of sweet Chai using these k-cups.

Tazo K-Cup for Keurig Brewers, Classic Chai Latte, 24 CountTazo K-Cup for Keurig Brewers, Classic Chai Latte, 24 Count

Of all the sweetened Chai lattes on this page the Tazo Chai k cups may actually taste the best because they break the brewing process up into two steps. Instead of jamming the creamy sweetener into the k-cup along with the spices and tea leaves they give you a packet of sweetened powder creamer to put into your cup before turning on the brew cycle on your Keurig.

The sweetener doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners so the flavor is just better, a lot better.

In my opinion this chai tastes really great and it’s a good balance between sweet and not sweet. Obviously this isn’t as quick and easy as a k-cup alone but if you want something good without adding too much process to your routine this is a great option.

It’s not the cheapest option but it is probably just as good and much cheaper than hitting up Starbucks on your way to work! 🙂

Skinnygirl Indulgent Beverages, Chocolate Chai Latte, 24 CountSkinnygirl Indulgent Beverages, Chocolate Chai Latte, 24 Count

This last Chai tea on the list isn’t exactly a normal Chai latte so it’s not going to be for everybody. I would classify this as a novelty product that some people may absolutely love but only some.

Skinny Girl has twisted the Chai by adding cocoa to this k cup making this feel a bit like a cross between chai tea and hot chocolate.

The k-cup is sweetened with Stevia which keeps the calories per cup down but will also turn off some people who dislike artificial sweeteners.

For some people this will be just fine. It’s not for me but it may well be the perfect indulgent for you.

Now Let’s Quickly Cover Some Basic FAQs

Most people who are searching for these types of k-cups are very familiar with the traditional form made in a pan on the stove. You probably know who good it is especially when you give it enough time.

With k-cups all the time is replaced with speed and convenience so you probably have a few common questions which I’ll try to predict and answer right here.

  • What’s in a Chai Latte K Cup? – Every brand makes their k-cups a little bit differently but they all start with the very basics of chai tea. When you brew a Chai latte k-cup from any brand you are really brewing a chai tea k-cup that includes typical ingredients like cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger among other black tea leaves. Many companies sweeten their k-cups with sugars or artificial sweeteners and add milk based creamers to give the latte it’s creamy texture. Some of the less easy options remove the creamer from the k-cup so that you can get a stronger tea extraction and so that you can add your own fresh creamer after the brew cycle. Still others use various alternative forms of sweeteners instead of sugar or even add in taste altering additives like vanilla or cocoa to put a unique twist on their product.
  • Do Chai Latte K Cups Have a Lot of Caffeine? – All of these style k-cups are made from a base of black tea which means they do have caffeine. Chai tea typically has roughly 20-30mg of caffeine per cup but a k-cup chai latte which is mixed with spices and creamers tends to have less caffeine per serving. As a rule of thumb expect between 10-20mg per serving depending on the strength of your brew and the brand you are brewing.
  • Is a Chai Latte a Coffee Drink? – Brewing anything in a Keurig style coffee maker makes you think of coffee. Also, just about anything with latte in the name make you think of espresso but these products are not coffee based in any way. They are spiced and creamed versions of black tea and although they do have caffeine and are made form a k-cup you can rest assured that they are in no way a coffee drink.
  • How Many Calories Are in a Chai Latte K Cup? – The calorie count of a chai latte k-cup has everything to do with the brand and ingredients used. Some k-cups use sugar as the sweetener while others use artificial sweeteners like Stevia. There are some that use low sweeter volumes and still other brands that don’t include sweeteners at all! A base of spiced black tea will have very little calories, roughly 5 to be specific. Once you add sweeteners and creamers the calorie count can easily climb to 100 calories or more. Some brands will contain more and some will contain less but 70-100 calories is a good ball park estimate.
  • Chai Tea vs Chai Latte: What’s the Difference? – Chai lattes are all started as basic chai tea, a mixture of black tea leaves and spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and clove. The latte is then built upon the basic tea by adding sweeteners and creamers. Much like a coffee latte is created by adding milk to espresso the same goes for chai. You don’t necessarily have to add sugar or syrups to the tea but most do which is one reason why this drink is so addictive!

Honestly It’s Probably Best to Try A Few Chai Latte K-Cups and Figure Out Which One You Like Best!

You can listen to me here on this site or comb through reviews over on Amazon or whatever your online retailer of choice is but even if a particular brand is consistently rated high and other brand gets frequent poor reviews you may find you like the one with poor reviews the best.

In my opinion I like the Tazo Chai the best because it’s not very sweet and I don’t feel like I have to add creamer to my cup.

I drink k-cups for the speed, not because they make the best stuff so an all in one Chai k-cup is worth it in my book.

Drink a few of the options reviewed above and you’ll probably find a clear cut winner in no time.
